An alumnus of Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in the arts when she was growing in her teens. She took part in singing competitions, performed in the theatre department at her high school and was a singer in the choirs. Her move into Los Angeles in order to pursue a degree in The University of Southern California and then was Belle as the Princess for two and a half years at Disneyland. She quit college to find a talent agent who would let her audition for film and TV. Butler played a part in the TV shows CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. Her auditions led to roles in the movies A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser, and the Syfy TV Horror film Flu Bird Horror (2008). The year before, she was a character in Don Stark's webseries Luke 11-17. Butler is also a frequent appearance on I Love Vampires. Butler was chosen as the principal character for I Spit on Your Grave (a remake) in 2010, a revenge film and the thriller of rape. Although initially she was not a fan of the film's violence and nudity she was eventually convinced by the feminist nature of the plot and powerful characters. Butler played Jennifer Hills who, having been viciously assaulted inside a cabin in the forest and then gang-raped, seeks revenge against the culprits. Steven R. Monroe, director of the film, made it available on the 8th of October 2010. Butler began filming The Stranger Within, a psychological drama The Stranger Within alongside Estella Warren and William Baldwin in Mallorca Spain during November of 2011. In addition to New York City and Copenhagen The film was set for filming in Copenhagen Denmark. She also became part of the crew for Treachery which featured Michael Biehn. The independent feature film started filming in Los Angeles in early 2012. Butler starred in the 2013 thriller The Demented with Michael Welch and Kayla Ewell.

The most notable awards include her winning the Young Artist Award (for Mermaid) along with a CAMIE Award, for Best Lead Performance of the TV Movie Series or Special.
